Dates: 6-8PM Thursdays, July 13 to August 3

Course description: During this four-week generative workshop, we will discuss examples of hybrid poetry by writers of color and use these texts to prompt and inspire our own writing through guided exercises. Week 1 (Text) will explore found poetry, erasures, archive work, and translation. Week 2 (Image) will explore visual poetry, collage, concrete poems, and asemic writing. Week 3 (Movement) will explore performance, game poems, kinetic poems, and cinepoetry. In Week 4, we will share and discuss our poems with each other, reflect on what we've learned, and consider possible avenues for showcase and publication. The goal of this workshop is to challenge our notions of what poetry is, what poetry does, and what poetry looks like, and to write the poem we never thought we'd write. All experience levels are welcome.
