Course description: Throughout this four week session, we will offer a reachable trajectory of Asian American short fiction, beginning with Sui Sin Far to more contemporary examples such as Viet Thanh Nguyen. The hope in doing so is to also trace a history of an Asian American theory of short fiction and how it might be tied to Asian American politics. Further, this workshop will seek to consider the possibilities short fiction has to offer for our narratives as well as its limitations. Everyone will share a short fiction project for consideration and discussion. The goal of this workshop will be to make new connections between art and artists and explore the relationship between the form and our identities.
